FAA Puts $2.5M into Geothermal Plant at Portland Jetport

National Geothermal’s installation of Maine’s largest geothermal system at the Portland International Jetport was recently featured in Mass High Tech.  The project is funded by a $2.5 million grant from the Federal Aviation Administration.  Jetport officials first considered geothermal energy after learning that a typical installation can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 50 percent, cut energy costs by 65 percent and pay for itself in well under a decade.  When the installation is complete, the Jetport will be the first commercial airport in the country to use geothermal energy for heating and cooling.
